As a little girl, I went to the beach as often as I could. I ran naked across the sand with my shrimp net in my hand and my little brother by my side. At the same time, it reminds me of the fear of the sea and the way we were once rescued by the coastguard from a scary current.
Cindy Bakker created this large red buoy for the exhibition Een Muur van Blauw , which was on display last year at the ICOON museum in Hoek van Holland. She drew inspiration for this work from the surrounding landscape: the sea, the beach and the dunes, in contrast to the hard concrete of the bunker itself. With this work, Cindy aims not only to offer a visual experience, but also a journey through personal memories related to this environment. It is an invitation to look beyond the surface, to discover your own memories and associations in what appear to be familiar forms.
