A Vivid Shine: a group exhibition curated by Julius Thissen

A Vivid Shine brings together artists who, each in their own way, play with attraction, surface and imagery. Shine becomes a vehicle through which ideas, emotions and tensions are carried. What initially appears polished, seductive or desirable can reveal another layer upon closer inspection.

The title refers to Vivishine, a popular brand of rubber and latex polish. The product is used to enhance and intensify a material’s natural shine whilst simultaneously creating a protective barrier. Julius takes this act of enhancing the surface as a starting point for the exhibition. Shine can be deliberately applied, but it can also emerge through the choice of materials, techniques and processes. Across the selected works, the glistening surface becomes a strategy: it can sparkle and seduce, but also protect and conceal, carrying a world filled with intention and meaning.
